First Human Case of West Nile Virus Reported

The first human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in Huron-Perth.

While the specific location isn’t known, Dr. Lauren Hayward, Physician Consultant at Huron-Perth Public Health says while the overall case to the public remains low, this serves as a timely reminder that West Nile Virus activity increase over the late summer and early fall.

According to Public Health Ontario there has been 61 confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus have been reported this year.

Around 1 in 150 people infected will get seriously ill with symptoms like high fever, muscle weakness, vision loss and coma.
