With Valentines Day, OPP are warning those of romance scams, still hitting locals.
On February 9th at around 12pm, Wellington County OPP were called after a Fergus victim lost $70,000.
The victim joined an international online dating website in 2024 and over that time, $70,000 was sent to a fraudster who posed as a romantic partner.
Police say romance scams are typically always online where someone poses as a fake individual, builds a romantic relationship and convinces victims to send money, gifts or provide personal information.
