As we’re starting to see days where the afternoon high reaches the 20’s, it’s the season of driving with the windows down and for some passengers, posting up their feet on the dash.
West Region OPP are reminding passengers, this is a hazard the passenger airbag isn’t going to wait for you to adjust yourself properly.
Police say its one bump in the road or the driver looking away for a split second for an airbag to deploy at over 300km an hour.
OPP Sergeant Ed Sanchuk says the tool aimed to save you, can actually have the opposite effect if you’re posted up.
“Physics doesn’t care how comfortable you are. When your feet are on the dash, your body is completely out of position. If a crash happens, the force meant to protect you can instead cause devastating injuries, the kind you don’t walk away from.” said Sanchuk
Drivers are reminded to keep your feet on the floor, your back against the seat and your seat belt on.
