Crown Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett announced this morning more funding in searches for unmarked graves at former residential school sites.
An additional $83 million will be put into helping search unmarked graves at sites. Bennett adding a committee will be established who will be able to provide details and support to the work to find the children lost.
“All areas that can help in the difficult work of finding and identifying those children who attended residential schools and never returned home to their families or communities.” said Bennett
The federal government will also be providing an additional $107 million for mental health services and healing due to the trauma from the residential school system.
