MP for Perth-Wellington, John Nater was among the nays in an 185-151 vote which will see the Emergencies Act powers remain in place.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the act on February 14th which Conservatives say is an overreach of power.

The vote allows the measures to stay in place until at least mid-March.

The vote saw the NDP’s stand with Trudeau and the Liberals while Conservative and Bloc Quebecois going firmly against it.

Nater says there are better ways to restore order without a need for the emergencies act.

“As Canadians, we can call for and reinforce the need to be a country of law and order while also arguing the tools of the Emergencies Act are an overreach” said Nater

Conservative Interim Leader, Candice Bergen has already given notice of a motion to revoke the Emergencies Act for a second time.
