The Perth County OPP Detachment Board is raising concerns on recent incidents of drivers going past road closures.

The board in a statement says road closures aren’t optional, they are to keep everyone safe.

A road will be closed due to conditions whether it be whiteout conditions, flooding, ice covered surface, down hydro lines, emergency response activity or other hazards.

Chair of the Perth County OPP Detachment Board, Todd Kasenberg says too often emergency responders are forced into dangerous situations to assist motorists who ignored closure signs.

OPP may lay charges under the Highway Traffic Act for drivers who enter a closed roadway.

In addition to legal consequences, motorists may also face significant financial and insurance implications for driving on a closed road.
