Driver fails roadside test and is facing charges

A Central Huron resident is facing charges after he was arrested following a failed roadside breath test last week.

Shortly before 5pm on December 18th the accused was operating his pickup truck on Orchard Line when he entered the RIDE checkpoint.

Upon speaking with the driver the officer observed open alcohol inside the vehicle as well as the driver displaying signs he had consumed some alcohol.

A roadside screening test was administered and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the closed OPP detachment for breath tests. Two samples were provided to the Intoxilizer Technician and both registered over the legal limit.

A 62 year old male of Central Huron has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired 80 plus and with having an open contained other than on a licensed premises, residence or private place.

His court date has been scheduled for January 18th to answer to charges in a Goderich court.

His license has been suspended for 90 days and a 7 day impoundment of his vehicle was also undertaken.
