Draft Update for Code of Practice for Dairy Cattle Open for Feedback

Feedback accepted online until January 27th

A draft update to the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Dairy Cattle is now open for public comment which allows all stakeholders to provide input on the updates to the 2009 code.

The draft code and how to submit comments is open on the National Farm Animal Care Council’s website.

Comments must be made through the platform and will close on January 27th. The committee will then consider all submitted comments with plans for the final Code of Practice to be released later in 2022.

Codes of Practice for the care and handling of farm animals are a result of Canada’s consensus based approach to bring all relevant stakeholders with an interest in animal care standards developed by the National Farm Animal Care Council.

Once the code has been finalized it will promote sound management and animal care practices for housing, feeding, handling and other practices.

The Dairy Cattle Code is one of four codes of practice being developed as part of a multi-year project.

The Farm Animal Care Council says its important the codes are scientifically informed and reflect expectations for responsible farm animal care.
