An outbreak which has affected 9 inmates at the Stratford Jail has caused to close temporarily.
Around 30 inmates will be transferred to other jails that have the capacity to house inmates safely away from the general population. The jails the inmates will be transferred to will not be shared for security reasons.
A case of COVID-19 was confirmed in the jail last week from an inmate who was transferred from another facility in Morrison. Over the last several months, changes have been introduced in correctional facilities such as enhanced screening, providing masks for inmates and allowing inmates and staff to get COVID-19 tests.
The jail will remain closed for at least 14 days.
