Farmers are now eligible to apply for cover crop incentives.
The Grand River Conservation Authority’s Rural Water Quality Program has been called as the right thing do from producers who took part.
The program offers a peracre incentive for farmers in Waterloo, Haldimand, Dufferin, Brant as well as Wellington and Perth County within the Nith River watershed.
Cover crops offer many benefits including reduction of erosion, retention of nutrients and improvements to soil health.
More than 400 producers have received the one time cover crop incentive in the Grand River watershed program over the last 5 years. Applications for the cover crop program can be submitted now.
The incentive rate differs from each municipality and funding decisions are made by a farmer review committee.
The Grand River Conservation Authority helps deliver the Rural Water Quality Program initiative on behalf of the Regional Municipality of Waterloo, and the Counties of Brant, Dufferin, Haldimand and Wellington.
