While the Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance intends to sign a long term land lease agreement for a new 128 bed long term care home on the site of Avon Crest, Stratford council still heard from many residents who were critical of the plan to tear down Stratford’s first public hospital.
Councilor Cody Sebben brought forward the discussion to re-visiting to designate Avon Crest as a heritage property.
Healthcare Alliance President Andrew Williams says he’s been clear if somebody approached them with a timely, funded and responsible plan to preserve the building they would listen but it has not happened.
Williams adds they aren’t ready for demolition for Avon Crest as they are still in the tender phase.
