North Perth Council has decided against allowing ATV use on a section of North Perth Trails.

The discussion on the matter has been something in council and in the public for months with results from a survey shared with council.

From the responses it showed over 50 per cent were against both allowing ATV’s on the trails as well as not being in favour of a 6 month trial.

Manager of Facilities, Jeff Newell says from the survey results they’ve gathered the public would rather keep the trail as non-motorized while saying the potential risks outweigh the positives.

“They view the trail as a valuable community resource and it should be kept as a non motorized recreational amenity in our community. The potential risks with allowing ATV’s outweigh the perceived benefits for most users who completed the survey and they are looking to keep the peaceful tranquility of the trail” said Newell.

Council followed through with a staff recommendation to deny the request from the North Perth & District ATV Club for permitting ATV trail use on a section of the North Perth Trail System.
