During Monday’s meeting, North Perth Council heard from Warren Howard, on behalf of Elma-Mornington Concerned Citizens regarding the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) launching an RFP on wind turbine proposals.

Howard briefly touched on the history of wind turbine projects across the area which have failed to go forward. Howard touched on a list of some proposed new zoning rules for wind turbines, something similar seen when he came to council in 2022.

“A setback of 2000 metres that protects everything that deals with audible and low frequency noises. Establish setbacks from property lines by 1200 metres which would impact of turbine failure and ice throw and establish setbacks from designated growth areas” said Howard.

Some discussion followed with councilors in support of Howard’s proposals.

Council did agree to get a report from staff on the various actions on wind turbines.
