North Perth council is being called to step up and address concerns brought from delegates regarding the current kennel by-laws in the municipality.
Both Donna Power and Karen Thompson-Harry spoke to council to address the issue of puppy mills and the by laws for kennels.
Power has been the past 5 years to raise public awareness on the neglect, mistreatment and inhumane conditions of Ontario’s commercial dog breeding business.
Both are looking to not go after small ethical breeders who do so for the love of the specific dog breed but rather those who breed in large numbers for the sole purpose of making money.
Councilor Lee Ann Andriessen says the information provided from both delegates is incredibly useful going forward.
“The concerns you have raised will help us to look at what we need to do in terms of updating our bylaws so that we can have more compliance and safety for those wonderful pets out there” said Andriessen.
Council accepted the report as Mayor Todd Kasenberg mentioned the approval at previous meeting to direct staff to explore the issues more and keep in regular contact with both Donna and Karen as they valued the information brought forward to them.
