Community Survey to be Launched for ORV Trail Use in North Perth

The next steps on whether or not to allow ATV riders on some North Perth trails will come down to the community response.

North Perth council last night discussed the next steps from a meeting in March about working with the North Perth & District ATV Club on opening up a set of trail to allow riders to use them during the season.

While speaking a rather packed council chamber, Manager of Facilities Jeff Newell highlighted some pros and cons on the topic.

“The pros include financial and volunteer contribution of trail maintenance by the club, there’s an economic benefit to the community and they have a permitting system to generate funding for the club which would be used for maintenance activities. The cons, is safety of other users and their pursuits, noise levels for local residents and our staff currently experience complaints regarding ATV use on regular trails.” said Newell.

A delegation spoke to council prior to the main discussion about being against allowing off road vehicles on the Listowel-Atwood-Henfryn trail.

For the time being, staff will work on getting a public survey up on the matter on Your Say North Perth.
