Collison in Rothsay leads to Closure of Roadway for Several Hours

Initial reports indicate a pickup and commercial vehicle collided with the latter striking a hydro pole & live hydro wires going across roadway.

The Wellington County OPP says a driver has been charged following a collision in Rothsay that left the roadway closed and some without electricity hours for many hours.

Yesterday at around 1 pm, police responded to a report of a collision at Queen Street and Elora Street West.

Initial reports indicate a pickup and a commercial vehicle had collided. The commercial vehicle then subsequently struck a hydro pole & live hydro wires went across the roadway.

No injuries were reported but the roadway was closed for several hours while the lines were repaired.

As a result of the investigation, the pickup driver, a 51-year-old from Listowel has been charged with disobeying a stop sign. (This had previously been issued as the commercial vehicle driver but was subsequently corrected by police following the news release)
