Changes will soon take place to the Blue Box service in Wellington County.

As of July 1st, the county will no longer be responsible for providing blue box services and instead take on a full producer responsibility system.

While the transition will take place at the start of next month, it’s expected to be in full effect across the county by January 1st of next year.

Das Soligo, Manager of Solid Waste Services for the County says really there is no major change for residents.

“Residents will still set out their recycling in the same container on the same mornings. The main change is if you’re blue box is missed, it’s not collected or you need a new one you’ll start to call the contractor who’s providing the service which is Waste Management.” Soligo.

This change was made by the provincial government four years ago with new regulations to make producers fully accountable and financially responsible for their products.
