Centre Wellington is purchasing 90 acres to help expand the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
The expansion is to help address expected growth and new development in the area.
Mayor Shawn Watters and the township have agreed to purchase the 90 acres of land adjacent to the sportsplex on Wellington Road 18 at a cost of $4.8 million.
The township currently has 257 acres of parkland available but staff say this is needed as the community continues to grow.
According to the 2018 Parks and Recreation Master Plan the township will need 300 acres of parkland by 2028.
