Canadian Blood Services is preparing to ask Health Canada to allow it to remove questions regarding gender or sexuality when preparing to donate blood.
Ending the ban of gay and bisexual men from donating blood has long been a discussion and request, as well as a promise made by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2015.
Catherine Lewis, a spokeswoman for Canadian Blood Services says questions pertaining to donating blood should revolve around sexual behavior and not orientation to determine risks of diseases such as HIV.
Trudeau faced much pressure from MP’s and those in the LGBTQ community to scrap the questions for donors aimed towards gay men while on the campaign trail.
Trudeau responded saying action was coming.
