Canada’s Womens Soccer team defeated the top ranked US team 1-0 in the Olympic Semi-Finals today.
The team now has a chance to win the gold medal match against Sweden on Thursday. The tie was broken on a penalty kick by Jessie Fleming in the 75th minute to defeat the for the first time in 20 years.
The team has only beaten the Americans 4 times in the 62 times the two teams have met all time.
The win redeems a loss to the US back at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. Christine Sinclair scored a hat trick of goals but were brought down by controversial refereeing and a late goal by the US.
