The 2022 Canadian Under 21 Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships is returning to the Festival City and will be played from March 25 to April 1st, 2022 Curling Canada announced today.
The event will take place at the Stratford Rotary Complex and will feature an expanded 18 team fieldĀ in 2022 that will be permanent from now on.
The field will includes the standard 14 member associations, one host team from Ontario and additional berths provided to the teams that earned gold, silver and bronze medals at the 2020 Canadian Juniors.
For the women those teams are Manitoba, Alberta and Nova Scotia. For the men it will be Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador and Saskatchewan.
The event will have modified eligibility requirements next year. Athletes must be 20 years of age or less as of June 30, 2022( as per World Curling Federation Rules to qualify for the 2023 World Juniors) but teams may also have one overage athlete (21 years or less by the same cutoff date).
The Winning teams will represent Canada at the 2023 World Junior Curling Championships. If the winning team includes an overage athlete who is not eligible to compete at the World Juniors, Curling Canada will work with the teams to determine a replacement player.
