The beach at Conestogo Lake will be closed for the rest of the season due to the presence of blue-green algae.
The Grand River Conservation Authority in consultation with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has recommended the closure.
The water levels in the Conestogo Lake reservoir are already lower than normal for the time of year as a result of the Conestogo Dam rehabilitation project.
Cameron Irvine, GRCA Supervisor of Water Quality says they know blue-green algae conditions can change quickly but the low water levels in the reservoir in combination of warm air creates the perfect conditions for algae to grow and bloom in large bodies of water.
