The Crown in Alberta has withdrawn all but one charge against Edmonton area Pastor James Coates.
His church GraceLife had been holding in-person church services without capacity restrictions violating Alberta’s Public Health Act.
Coates had been held in custody since mid-February after being arrested for refusing to abide by a condition of his bail release to not return to in-person services without health act restrictions.
He has now agreed to pay a fine of $100. He will be released without restriction until his trial.
The case set to go to trial in May will now focus on challenging the lawfulness of the public health order he is charged with violating.
