Wellington North took another look at the budget for the year and the biggest discussion as expected was a new pool for Mount Forest.

The discussion of the pool took the bulk of the over 4 hour meeting.

The discussion of a new pool to replace the old Lion Roy Grant Pool has gone on for many years and most recently its future was uncertain after ballpark cost of around $5.3 million was shot, a leap from last year when a $1.5-$2 million cost was discussed.

Staff brought the idea to help fund the pool with an eight year plan to raise $2.8 million tax funded contribution for the new pool and the rest to be fund raised.

Councilor Sherry Burke said the number for fundraising is just too high.

“Maybe 1 million for fundraising, see what we can pull from reserves. Potentially any grants that maybe aren’t available now but if it was shovel ready project, then we could be prepared for those as well.” said Burke.

Ultimately, a resolution was passed moving the pool project forward.

The motion was to support a funding option with a breakdown of $2.8 million in taxpayer contributions and 2.5 million to be fund raised by the community.

Councilor Burke was the only opposed in the vote.
