Stratford police are investigating after a St Marys resident lost over $70,000 to a scam.
Police say they were contacted on Wednesday from a family member of the victim.
Officers learned the victim had received a phone call on January 27th informing them they had been selected for a prize of $5,000,000 and a new Mercedes.
The victim then sent funds via e-transfer to various individuals to “cover the taxes.”
The victim had sent over 25 e-transfers.
Police are urging residents to be aware of scams if something sounds too good to be true, it likely is.
