Wellington County is keeping it’s State of Emergency in place past the New Year following consultation with Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health for Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph.
The County originally had plans to end its State of Emergency on December 31st at 11:59pm based on the decline of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations and increased vaccination of youth.
However due to the spread of the Omicron variant, officials in the area have recommended the extension of the emergency declaration.
A State of Emergency has remained in Wellington County since March 23rd, 2020.
The State of Emergency gives Warden Kelly Linton the authority to take actions and make orders he believes are needed to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents.
