The Town of Minto is working on a flag and banner policy for the municipality and ideas clashed during a recent council meeting about staying neutral when it comes to flying flags and banners.

A delegation with over 900 signatures from residents called to have the Town of Minto only fly the town flag and Canadian flag while also keeping crosswalks and any town banners kept neutral.

Dan Sinclair, one of the delegations who spoke says this petition and call for neutral zones is not targeting a specific group.

“I want to make it extremely clear, this petition is not against a specific group but however in full support of neutral within our communities and public spaces to be simply put.” said Sinclair.

Caitlin Hall with Minto Pride also spoke who says people who signed the petition wanted their names redacted claiming signatures were gained in an unethical way.

A letter sent to the town prior to the meeting from one resident says an older lady had approached them saying they were petitioning for another crosswalk for kids in Harriston.
