Grade 6 students with the Avon Maitland District School Board kept busy over March Break with take home FunTECH kits.

The kits came in various types from culinary, carpentry, transportation and sewing to have students and parents work together and learn more with their week off.

Jodi Froud the OYAP Recruiter for AMDSB says this edition of FunTECH provided a perfect hands on learning experience.

“To learn something maybe about themselves and then at the end of the day they have a project that they can all feel proud they got to do together.” said Froud.

Froud adds the success from this year and in the past shows they will continue to offer the kits for future grade 6 students down the road.

“This is something we will continue to offer because its so unique and it provides such an amazing opportunities for students at home with their family to engage in a skilled trade and gain some life skills.”

Leftover materials from the FunTECH kits were utilized recently at the Stratford Home & Leisure Show with 6 students from Stratford District Secondary working with younger students with the kits which Froud says they received great feedback from parents on.

“We had so many comments from parents saying it was so special to see their kids with a grade 9 and 10 student who was so engaged and helping them build something themselves.”
