8 Children Not Secured or Wearing Seat Belt in Traffic Stop

A 31 year old is facing 15 charges after a plate reader found a driver without insurance.

On August 12th at around 3:45pm, Wellington County OPP was on patrol on St David Street North in Fergus when an Automatic Licence Plate Reader notified the officer of a vehicle potentially operating without insurance.

Upon investigation officers noticed the Nissan Pathfinder had 11 occupants including 8 children who were not properly secured or wearing a seat belt.

As a result a 31 year old faces multiple charges including;

  • Careless driving
  • Drive while child passenger not properly secured
  • Drive while passenger under 16 fails to properly wear a seat belt (five counts)
  • Drive while passenger under 16 fails to occupy position with a seat belt (two counts)
  • Owner operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Knowingly give false insurance card
  • Driver fail to surrender insurance
  • Fail to notify change of address
  • Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
  • Drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit

The accused will appear in court at a later date
