$419,000 in provincial funding is being invested back locally for free pre-apprenticeship training for those in skilled trades.

The Technical Training Group will be leading the training and providing those in Perth and Huron County’s with skills and experience needed to get a well paying job in skilled trades.

Listowel, Stratford and Clinton will be training sites.

“Attracting more people to the skilled trades will be integral as we look to achieve our goal of building 1.5 million homes over the next decade,” Matthew Rae, MPP for Perth-Wellington said. “There are over 140 trades in Ontario, offering good-paying jobs, including right here in Perth-Wellington.”

Welding, machining training and metal fabricating will be done at school tech facilities at night and on weekends when they are not being used by students during the day.

An 8 week paid placement will also be included.

The funding is part of a near $1.5 billion investment in the Skilled Trades Strategy.
