There is no plan for Wellington County to make the switch from its regular plastic garbage bags to paper bags for collection.
For the time being, the yellow plastic garbage bags will continue to be used instead of paper garbage bags due to lack of data around its feasibility.
Staff was first asked in January to explore and see if Wellington County adopting paper bags over the yellow plastic could be used in its user pay system, however staff was unable to find any paper based bags aside from leaf and yard waste, groceries or for bagged lunches.
Without the examples to use, there still is not yet a comparison to be drawn going against the current yellow plastic garbage bags.
