Woolwich Township to Likely Close Mill Street to Allow Outdoor Patios

Many towns and cities have allowed restaurants to add or expand their patios onto the street or parking lots

In an effort to help local business, Woolwich Township council will be considering to shutdown a stretch of Mill Street in Elmira for the summer patio season.

The township is likely making this move to help boost local restaurants for outdoor patios which will spill out on the street and bring up the local economy.

The closure of Mill Street was done last year though the BIA says it could have been handled better which seems to be taken into consideration.

The proposal this year will not extend past Memorial Ave, allowing vehicles to detour around the closure and allow drivers to get where they need to go.

To make up for closed indoor dining or limited seating, many towns and cities have allowed restaurants to extend their patio or have a patio in their parking lots or on the street where they would otherwise not have a patio.
