West Perth Looking to Increase Fines for Parking Violations

Repeat parking offenders in West Perth could be faced with an increase in fines.

West Perth Clerk Dan Hobson brought the recommendation to increase fines for repeat offenders on May 1st.

Hobson noted the parking bylaw is difficult to enforce at times such as the 12 hour overnight parking which can’t be properly tracked since bylaw enforcement officer shifts are around 4 hours or shorter. Councilor Doug Feltz says this needs to be tackled now as the issue will only get worse as the community grows.

“I think this is something we need to nip in the bud now and give them some control to do some stuff or its just going to increase and get worse. If people know were serious about this they’ll have to deal it with.” said Feltz

Council asked staff to bring back an amendment to the parking bylaw to increase fines and have additional fines for repeat offenders.

Council meets this evening but the agenda does not include the returned amendment from staff.
