A collection of mosquitoes taken from a trap in St Marys have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Huron Perth Public Health says its the first positive test of West Nile Virus of the season across Huron and Perth Counties since testing started on June 2nd.

Dale Lyttle, a public health inspector says this isn’t overly surprising as late summer months are when people are at the highest risk of contracting West Nile Virus.

Homeowners are being asked to check their properties for areas of standing water and remove them to prevent breeding areas for mosquitoes.

Across Ontario, no confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus has been reported.
