Wellington Terrace Employee Tests Positive for Covid-19 in Fergus

Asymptomatic case was diagnosed during regular surveillance testing of staff

 

During weekly surveillance testing for Covid-19 at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home, an employee tested positive. The employee is asymptomatic and isolating at home.

Wellington Terrace staff immediately responded to the situation with direction from Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to limit further transmission. Families of residents have been notified of the situation.

The facility is working closely with Public Health to begin contract tracing those that may have come into contact with the infected employee.

Prior to this positive test result the facility was placed in facility-wide outbreak status which was set to expire on January 25th. The outbreak status has now been extended until February 4th.

Wellington Terrace employees are tested every 7 days as per Ministry of Health directives. In addition to weekly surveillance testing, any resident or employee that shows even the slightest evidence of a health change is immediately tested for Covid-19.

In collaboration with Public Health, the facility is in the process of organizing residents and staff for Covid-19 vaccinations. The first of the two dose vaccine, has now been administered to all residents wishing to be vaccinated. Staff vaccinations are underway and will continue once Public Health receives more vaccine and are able to offer vaccination clinics.

The outbreak status prohibits any new resident admissions to Wellington Terrace. To date there has not been any Covid-19 positive cases in the resident population.
