Wellington County Tree Program Marks 3 Million Trees Planted

Program the largest municipal tree planting program in North America

Wellington County’s Green Legacy Tree Program hit a milestone on Wednesday with its 3 millionth tree planted on the grounds of Wellington Place.

Since 2004, the Green Legacy program had the idea of planting 150,000 trees in celebration of the County’s 150th anniversary.

In 2010, the program was recognized by the United Nations under the Billion Tree Campaign for its significant environmental contribution.

In a release, Warden Kelly Linton says the program leaves a lasting legacy for future generations, done by the work of community volunteers and school children over the last 19 years.

The Green Legacy Tree Planting Program is the largest municipal tree planting program in North America.
