Wellington County OPP say a local has lost $80,000 to a romance scam.
On May 18th at around 9pm OPP received the report from a resident in Guelph-Eramosa.
It was reported between February-April the victim developed an online relationship with an unidentified person who was defrauded of more than $80,000 who sent e-transfers and cryptocurrency.
OPP say to always beware of fake identities as scammers often create fake profiles as well as those requesting financial assistance and a reluctance of someone to meet in person.
Police say if you become a victim of a romance scam to always contact OPP.
