Ambulance delays have continued to be one of the biggest issues affecting emergency departments across Wellington County.
The amount of “Code Red” calls issued which means no ambulances are available for calls due to ties with offloading patients has risen to 50 this year noted in the end of October.
This number is up from only 4 in 2021 with none issued in 2020.
When no Guelph-Wellington ambulances are available for call, it falls to the closest available ambulances in other communities to respond.
Since the start of the year, Guelph-Wellington paramedics have been required to stay in hospital emergency departments for over 30 minutes, which is marked as the provincial maximum standard more than 6100 times.
In terms of solutions, Wellington County council is turning to the provincial government as well as paramedic services starting a process of programs.
