According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, cargo theft costs the Canadian economy $5 billion per year.
The cost is placed on the consumer, both from increased pricing but also at an insurance premier cost. Wellington County OPP are reminding local companies, property owners and residents everyone has a part to play in preventing a costly crime.
Businesses are widely encouraged to protect their cargo and tractor trailers with hardened padlocks, security patrols and high quality CCTV cameras and additional lighting.
