On January 11th just before 7pm, Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision in the ditch at an intersection of Wellington Road 18 and First Line in Centre Wellington Township.
Investigation reveled a vehicle left on the roadway entered a ditch, struck a fence and stopped in a snow bank, the driver fled on foot.
Wellington County OPP Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team were able to track fresh footprints in the snow to a residence just 1km away from the crash scene. Officers spoke to the home owner and determined the driver was there and taken into custody.
A 31 year old from Elmira has been charged with 3 counts of Operation while Prohibited. The accused will appear in Guelph court on February 19th
