Wellington County has launched a series of Cognitive Activity Kits which are now available across all branches of the Wellington County Library.

The kits are designed for those living with dementia and their families, friends or caregivers to use. The kits include exercising fine motor skills and encourage social engagement and helps keeps ones brain active.

Each kit contains:

  • Photo and activity cards with which to have a conversation or play sorting games
  • A jigsaw puzzle
  • A dementia-friendly book
  • A Busy Bottle for I spy games
  • Reusable activity sheets for colouring, sudoku and word searches
  • A wooden sensory fidget
  • A DVD with various videos for discussion
  • A list of additional resources available through the Wellington County Library

Chief Librarian Rebecca Hine says there is no right or wrong way to use this kit which was designed in consultation with staff of the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo-Wellington.

Info sessions will also be held about the kits with one visit in Mount Forest on June 26th at 2pm.
