Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is reporting the first case of lab-confirmed influenza.
In a release, officials say while the case is a result of travel, residents should expect to see a resurgence of flu cases this fall as they reopen the region and gather in large numbers.
This is the first case of influenza detected locally since April of 2020.
Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health says the case isn’t unexpected, while flu cases have declined from the pandemic, the flu never left.
