Officials have discovered two fox kits in St Marys who have been diagnosed with the spreading avian flu affecting poultry farms across the country.

The Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative found the pair of foxes, one already dead with the other suffering from seizures and dying shortly after being admitted to a wildlife rehabilitation centre.

Officials say the foxes likely became infected after consuming organs or meat from infected bird carcasses.

A post mortem found the H5N1 virus as the likely cause of death.

No human cases have been found in Canada and is not considered a significant public health concern for healthy people who are not in regular contact with infected birds.
