Two bats in Wellesley Township have tested positive for rabies.
Regional Public Health says this isn’t really too surprising as rabies is often found in bats and there is an increased activity during the summer.
Public health says the best ways to avoid contracting rabies is avoid getting bitten or scratched by not touching any sick or injured animals, not feed wildlife and assume any bat you see has rabies.
If you think you were bitten or scratched by animal or had contact with a bat to contact public health and wash the area thoroughly with soap and water to reduce the chance of infection.
