Traffic stop in Erin leads to drunk driving charge

Driver also had cannabis readily available in the vehicle

Wellington County OPP stopped a driver just after 1 am on December 19th on Second Line near Side Road 17 in the Town of Erin.

While speaking with the driver officers formed the opinion that they were under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening Device test was conducted and resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to the local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Cannabis was also located in the vehicle and within reach of the driver.

A 43 year old male of East Garafraxa Township has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle 80 plus contrary to the criminal code and driving a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available contrary to the cannabis control act.

The accused is scheduled to appear in a court in Guelph on January 15th to answer to charges.

A 90 day license suspension and 7 day vehicle impoundment was also initiated as per the statue.
