Those renewing license plate stickers may be in for a shock

Drivers must pay for the past year before renewing sticker for the future

Service Ontario has started a social media campaign to remind drivers they need to start renewing their license plate stickers on their vehicles.

Under a previous moratorium  license plate stickers weren’t required to be renewed as Service Ontario attempted to reduce the number of trips required to go into their locations during the pandemic.

Now that the province is reopening those renewing stickers that have expired there are things to keep in mind.

When you renew your stick for the 2021 year you will also need to purchase the past 2020 year at the same time.

If your sticker expired on March 15th, 2020 as an example you would first have to pay for a 1 year sticker for March 2020 to March 2021 and then another sticker (1 or 2 year) for March 16, 2021 onward.

Notice hasn’t been given yet as to a deadline where expired stickers must be renewed.
