The hockey world lost it’s favourite dad last night with the passing away of Walter Gretzky.
He was known as Wally to his friends and the driving force behind the early backyard hockey sessions that would refine the skill of his son Wayne.
He never shied away from the spotlight that came with being Wayne’s dad and was never too busy to spend time with hockey fans in his hometown of Brantford in the same home that the family grew up in.
You would always find him out on game night for a Brantford 99ers game, Caledonia Corvairs down the road or across the world.
He never turned down the call to spreading the love of hockey.
Rest in peace Walter. He was 82.
