Hockey in Canada on the international stage is something any fan can get behind and cheer for and across the community locally, its even easier to get behind when local players make their impact.
This was seen recently in Nova Scotia for the Para Hockey Cup which saw Team Canada welcome the United States, Italy and Czechia in hockey action.
Among those representing Canada included Monktons Corbyn Smith who out of the gate made an impact.
In their opening match against Italy, Smith put up an assist in the 1st goal just a 1:34 in the 1st period though he was far from finished. Smith put up a goal in the 2nd period to add some insurance as Canada dominated 8-0 to open up the cup.
Team Canada would blank Czechia in their 2nd game 5-0 but in a narrow match heading to overtime, dropped against the United States.
To the semi finals Canada punched their ticket to the gold medal in a 7-0 blank against Czechia where they’d meet the United States once again.
No gold for the Canadians however as the United States would head back home with a 5-1 win in the gold medal match.
Corbyn Smith remains well decorated for Team Canada who was a Silver Medalist for Team Canada at the Paralympic Winter Games.
He had 3 goals and 3 assists in 2017 in the World Championship helping Canada to a Gold Medal.
