The unions representing elementary and high school teachers in Ontario’s public system is planning to hold strike votes this fall.

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation told its members the government shown little interest in negotiations with little progress being made.

The President of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario told its members patience has run out while trying to negotiate.

“ETFO members have been without an agreement for almost a year. They have been patient, but their patience has run out. We need the Ford government to take bargaining seriously and to act in good faith, as required by law,” notes ETFO President Karen Brown.

“ETFO’s goal is to reach fair and reasonable agreements without having to take job action. We need the government’s full attention on bargaining so we can address pressing concerns in public education.”

Minister of Education Steven Lecce says threatening another strike just weeks before the start of the school year is unnecessary and unfair.
