Stratford Police continue to urge the message to not be the next victim of a series of scams which make their rounds locally.

Police say the most common around the area include online, grandparent scams and lottery.

Grandparent scams often target a victims emotions claiming to pose as someone’s grandchild in distress needing money for medical bills or bail and pressure seniors to wire money or buy gift cards.

Lottery scams will often claim you’ve won a large prize but need to pay taxes or fees before you can collect.

Stratford Police say general tips to avoid scams include to never provide personal or financial information to someone you don’t know, if a caller poses as a company or government agency to hang up and call the organization directly and if something sounds too good to be true, its likely because its a scam.
